Digital Now - Enhance Your TV Experience with a Digital Adapter
Installation Details and FAQs

What is a digital adapter?
A digital adapter is a small electronic device that delivers a digital signal from the cable outlet to your TV. With a digital adapter, you can enjoy all the Cable TV channels without needing to re-scan your TV to find additional channels, and basic programming guide information is also available. An HD digital adapter gives you full access to the complete line-up of stunning HD channels included in your cable package.

Why do I need a digital adapter?
Each year, more homes and businesses increase their number of HD TVs, handheld devices, gaming systems and other Internet-connected devices. It's important that Midcontinent® convert our analog signals to digital so we can prepare our network to keep up with the increased demand for connectivity. As signals are converted to digital, a digital adapter from Midcontinent® will be needed to view channels in your cable package. You also have the option to upgrade your digital device to a DVR or TiVo® by visiting midcocomm.com/shop.

How do I order my digital adapter?
You can submit an order in one of three convenient ways: visit midcocomm.com/digitalnow, call customer service at 1.800.888.1300 or visit a Customer Service Center. Once you've received your adapter, you can install your device and activate it.

How do I install and activate my digital adapter?
After you’ve received your digital adapter:
  • Check out our convenient self-install tutorials for HD digital adapters and standard definition digital adapters. Videos and installation instructions are available to assist you.
  • Activate your digital adapter.
  • Confirm your service. Your digital adapter may take up to 15 minutes to begin downloading the proper channel line-up. (View the channel line-ups for your area.) Confirm that the light on the front of the digital adapter is lit solid and not blinking. Then, use your Midcontinent Communications remote to operate your digital adapter and scroll through channels to confirm that the channels in your Cable TV package are working. If the digital adapter will not power on or your authorized channels are not showing, contact customer service at 1.800.888.1300.

Who needs extra equipment?
If you already have a digital device (digital receiver, CableCARD, DVR or HD receiver) from Midcontinent connected to each TV in your home or business, you will not need additional equipment. All other TVs not connected to Midcontinent equipment will need a digital adapter or other digital device from Midcontinent to continue to receive cable channels as digital signal conversions occur. You also have the option to upgrade your digital device to a DVR or TiVo by visiting midcocomm.com/shop.

If you currently access broadcast channels using an antenna, you will still be able to do so.

Please note that all equipment remains property of Midcontinent and must be returned to Midcontinent in good condition (normal wear and tear excepted) when Cable TV service is no longer provided. You will be responsible for the replacement cost of non-returned equipment.

If I already have a digital receiver (set-top box) or DVR, do I need a digital adapter as well?
No. Digital adapters are only needed on TVs that are not connected to any type of digital equipment from Midcontinent.

What is the difference between a digital receiver (DVR) and a digital adapter?
Standard and HD digital adapters are smaller devices with a simple program guide. Digital adapters do not support ON Demand premium channels, pay-per-view or personal settings such as parental controls. HD digital adapters connected to HDTV will give you access to HD channels.

What will happen if I do not install or activate a digital adapter on TVs that aren’t digital-ready?
After we upgrade the signal from analog to digital for your area, you will not be able to view any cable channels. It is important for customers to install and activate all digital adapters in a timely manner to avoid disruption in service. Check out our convenient self-install tutorials for HD digital adapters and standard definition digital adapters. Videos and installation instructions are available to assist you.

For additional information, contact customer service at 1.800.888.1300 or visit a Customer Service Center.

Can I use my digital tuner TV to access my cable channels?
Midcontinent will be transitioning all analog channels to higher-quality digital channels, meaning equipment will be required on all TVs in the future. If you have any TVs without a standard or HD digital adapter, we encourage you to order a digital adapter. You may qualify for some digital adapters to be leased at no additional charge.

How will I know if the digital adapter is activated?
View the power light on the digital adapter to determine the activation status.
  • Solid power light: The digital adapter is authorized.
  • Long continuous blink: The digital adapter is in hunt mode and is not ready to be authorized. If you tried to authorize during hunt mode, the digital adapter will not be authorized. Wait for two short blinks and try again.
  • Three short blinks: The digital adapter is updating. Wait for two short blinks and try again.
  • Two short blinks: The digital adapter is ready to be authorized.

What if my TV doesn’t display the correct programming?
  • Confirm your TV is on the correct input setting.
  • Check the cables between the digital adapter and TV. Tighten any loose connections.
  • Unplug power from the rear of the digital adapter for 15 seconds. Plug it back in and wait until the power light is solid.

What if my remote control does not work?
  • Check that the batteries have been installed properly.
  • Verify that nothing is between your remote and the digital adapter.
  • Be sure that you are pointing your remote at the digital adapter or the remote control signal receiver (used when the digital adapter is mounted to the back of the TV).

What if my remote will not control my TV?
The remote control must be programmed to your TV; instructions are included with your remote. If you have programmed your remote control, try to program it again. Check the batteries to be sure they are installed correctly. Be sure you are pointing the remote at the TV.
